MIKEY EXPLOSION

On January 26, for the first appointment of 2019, Luca Pozzi will set up his works inside the photographic studio with a project that opens the doors to a new chapter—one that is experimental and witty, worthy of one of the most well-known young artists on the national scene. Through MIKEY EXPLOSION, the concept from which PROBING THE ELSEWHERE (SONDARE L’ALTROVE) originates manifests itself even more clearly and further develops the coordinates from which it started almost a year ago, moving on to explore other dimensions.

The photographic studio’s original production function is restored, and the environment is to all intents and purposes to be understood as a site-specific film set, used for the creation of new film content, parallel narratives, overlapping times, and curled-up dimensions. With the use of Blue Screen technology, the physical walls of the space are converted into actual dimensional portals opening onto scenarios invisible to the naked eye, above which float a series of magnetized physical works, built through the fragile concatenation of further levels of suspension.

Matte black surfaces, curved aluminum bars, and levitating ping-pong balls become material testimonies of a great, impalpable explosion that occurred in an ill-defined time and dimension, yet continues to echo on the monochromatic walls like background noise, like an obsessive thought, like a scene from a movie whose name you desperately try to remember. Mikey’s Explosion builds the prerequisites for an imaginative teleportation inside that scene, slowly revealing its outlines, starting from the slowed-down, distorted, and dilated sounds that fill the environment and invite the viewer to take part in it, contributing with their presence to the activation of the entire allegorical/narrative system.

The exhibition in its entirety will be visible to the viewer—who is an integral part of the work—only in the days following the opening, solely online through network-connected channels, where it will be possible to enjoy the completed work in its entirety. With MIKEY EXPLOSION, Luca Pozzi probes other depths, concatenated worlds of which the public, on January 26, will be partly unaware, visiting the exhibition with a single awareness: matter is only the beginning.
