THE MESSAGES OF GRAVITY

“Curated by Sergio Risaliti on the occasion of the exhibition Lucio Fontana, Alberto Giacometti, and Luca Pozzi at the Museo del Novecento in Florence, The Messages of Gravity project by Luca Pozzi presents a selection of works—some conceived as a direct homage to Lucio Fontana—that transport the viewer into themes shared by both artists: scientific discovery, the origin of the cosmos, and a fascination with the incalculable dimensions of space. Visitors are invited to abandon conventional spatio-temporal coordinates, bouncing like ping-pong balls between different eras and moving from material space to the elusive realm of imagination.

An interdisciplinary artist and mediator, Pozzi has long explored quantum physics, multi-messenger cosmology, and computer science through immersive installations. The exhibition features: ‘Rosetta Mission 2022’, a Virtual Reality game engine with 6 degrees of freedom; ‘Wilson Tour Loading, the end of god’, a photographic work capturing a tennis ball mid-air inside a Lucio Fontana masterpiece at the Reina Sofia Museum; ‘String Loops’, a series of hand-bent tread plate aluminum bars with magnetically suspended colored ping-pong balls; and ‘Arkanian Mirror’, an example of ‘technological animism’ capable of receiving deep-space signals and translating them into oracular messages.

Seventy years after Fontana’s first ‘Spatial Concepts,’ Pozzi evolves this radical legacy—from the Tagli (Slashes) to Spatial Environments—using AI and the Metaverse to explore dimensions Fontana could only imagine. The title, The Messages of Gravity, evokes both the scientific data we capture from the universe today and the secret messages Fontana inscribed on the back of his canvases for the future
