Wall Strings # 09

Wall String 09 by Luca Pozzi is a pan-dimensional pictorial quantum system (SU7), a complex visual architecture composed of 49 almond-patterned aluminum modules, each meticulously curved by hand. This installation is far more than a wall sculpture; it is a device engineered to explore the tension between matter and information, where each module functions as a single cell within a vast, interconnected network.

The conceptual and technological heart of the work lies in the polarities of each module, which are connected through pairs of colored ping-pong balls. These spheres are held in a state of perpetual suspension via magnetic pull attraction, a method specifically developed by the artist to minimize the physical bond with the painting’s surface. By detaching from the support, the work transcends traditional two-dimensional painting, projecting itself into spacetime as an emergent structure.

From the perspective of Loop Quantum Gravity, Wall String 09 serves as a tangible visualization of a spin network. However, the internal logic of the 49 modules also evokes Richard Feynman’s Path Integral formulation. Just as the path integral suggests that a particle doesn’t take a single path but follows every possible trajectory simultaneously, the repetitive yet hand-curved modules represent a “sum over histories.” The suspended ping-pong balls embody the moment of maximum uncertainty—the superposition of states—where all these potential paths exist at once.
